”Life as we remember” My painting is purposefully divided into two halves. There is no doubt that Covid has affected all our lives and resulted in significant changes. We would assume that all changes would be negative. However,l believe there were also great learnings associated with this global
pandemic. I believe that this pandemic brought everyone in the world together as we battled side by side. Covid went on for too long but l wish to use my painting to help people remember life before as well as imagine a better, even more united life after. With the vaccine, we hope this pandemic will blow over soon. However, we can always keep the learnings and build an improved life.

During COVID, a little girl felt bored because she could not go anywhere. One day she opened a magical door. Many small onions live there. These colorful little onions are going to travel. I wish you can take me with you.

The little girl is praying alone in the darkness that 2021 will be a year that people can finally reunite with their family and friends, continue traveling around the world, people will not be discriminated because of their race or skin color, a year where every person can go back to doing whatever they want to do.

Covid is a warning to humanity that there will be more viruses coming our way. We must break the barrier of racism and and fight as one team.

I had a dream that I was in a hot air balloon traveling with my cat. We started from my home in Canada to different countries around the world.
Now I put my dream of 2021 to a canvas.
In my drawing, the eagle represents freedom. Before the pandemic happened, I could go to any place I want freely.
We flew over to the beach where people are relaxing and having a good time. By the seaside, a girl is waving at me. Another girl is riding a dolphin like we do in Mexico. Behind my hot air balloon is Fuji Mountain and a Japanese temple where there are pretty cherry blossoms. Then,
the wind flew us to my favourite Eiffel Tower in Paris. In Front of the Eiffel tower is a little water fountain that people can make wishes there. Passing through different countries with different buildings, there are red telephone boxes, a red mail box, and a double-decker bus. These things remind me that we are now in London!
I hope my drawing about my dream of 2021 will come true soon, and everything is back to normal so we can go any places we want without masks again!

In 2020 not much people went out, leaving the usually busy streets empty. The spots where my friends would usually be hanging out is now left abandoned. My painting is about loneliness, nostalgia and the feeling you get when you realize you’re all by yourself. Isn’t the sky beautiful today? If only I had someone to share it with.

The Natives had their lands taken away when the Europeans discovered the Americas. The Catholic Church had designed many ways to strip away the identities of these unfortunate residents putting them in distraught and confusion. My painting focuses on the idea of identity, describing the main aspects of First Nation culture through art and emotion.May we never forget.

Isabella Chen (12-years-old)
My drawing is about a few families coming together for a lunch. Each of them is from different cultures background gathering to celebrate their differences. What I’m trying to show on my drawing is that everybody can get along without racism. Everybody should have their equal rights and speaks for themselves, no matter what they wear, speak,or eat. We should respect different cultures.

The girl sits upon a large bubble in a dark room. She relates back to the unforgettable 2020. In the bubbles contain memories of loneliness, grief and misery. She gazes up at the endless joyful scenes above her and thinks about the bright future ahead in 2021, where people are happy and no longer alone. She pops a bubble to move on from the past and greet the future.

"I wanted to develop an image that evokes memories and emotions from your 2020 and really feel a connection to it. I came up with the concept of a typical adolescent girl removing a ‘mask’ to depict the rush of fear and confused emotions that 2020 has instilled in not only her, but all of us. How she feels on the inside, all blank and empty, and how she needs a mask to conceal her inner thoughts and feelings. Her inner body reveals the tangled anxiety and stress she is experiencing, She is trapped by the reality that day and night are passing her by far too swiftly. But she is able to push it through because she has the hope.

Jane Yuan (10-years-old)
My drawing is about a teenager girl who was part of the online learning program and so then she hasn’t done any work from it because she thinks that none of that teacher is not going to have a problem with her. So, she wasted her time on useless thing that does not acknowledge anything to her. Then after a few days later at the midnight and was supposed to to sleep, but her phone was giving quite many notifications. So, she had to check it, and it was bunch of message from her teacher about all her missing works. She was desperate and had to rush through works, and that is until all the books randomly start floating across the air but she did not care, and her mom heard the noise and checked on her and realized all the things were floating from her.

Because of virus the cities have to lock down,So that there are no more people outside and the animals can wonder around , they can play anywhere they want to without people bothering them , for example ostriches can run around and steal people’s jewelry,( just kidding! 😊) . When there was no virus we could go out, but we were taking up a lot of environment that the animals needed, for example the animals could not lay their eggs because we were blocking them and also they could not communicate with their babies because it was so noisy .Now that people can not go out and travel around, there are no ferries go crossing the ocean ,the animals can lay their eggs 🥚, the whales can play with their babies, even we defeat the COVID-19,we should share the environment with the animals.

Viola (10-years-old)
In 2020, there was a pandemic, so everyone had to stay at home and if they want to go out, they will need to wear masks. What I am trying to show in my drawing, is how the pandemic has separated me from my friends by not being allowed to go to school. I did not see my friends on the other side for a long time. I feel lonely and isolated like I have been forgotten. On my side every day is the same. It is lonely.

Lynette Liang (8-years-old)
We can not travel during pendemic. With mom’s story, i feel I am at the beach with friends. Thanks to my mom, she makes everything better.

Alicia Zhang (9-years-old)
Dr. Hope, my family doctor and longterm friend, who is one of the front-line workers and didn’t take vacation for 2 years. I had prepareda surprise for her. After Pandemic when everyone gets vaccinated, I will bring her to travel around the world and people all over the world send greetings to her to celebrate the world back to normal. It's time for her to take a break.

Amy Zhang (16-years-old)
I painted the the light and the shadows of the same sunset over dolls from different countries, to represent how the modern technologies of social media with automatic translation and emoticons shed light on the world, and made communications more accessible. Covid19 created distance but also brought people closer.

Leo Chen (9-years-old)
“Finally,we win the battle and the earth becomes healthy again. The other planets and the shooting stars are cheering for us. The end!” Leo is reading a book to all his animal friends. The story is about how the covid which is a very horrible enemy was spreaded in 2020 and defeated in 2021.

Collette Chang (8-years-old)
During Covid, I feel stuck and locked up in jail. The outside world is very dangerous and people are getting hurt. People are going to the hospital and are dying...

Charmaine Kuang (8-years-old)
I drew my-self and my friends waving to my grandparents but having social distance, because they got Covid at the end of last year. Covid-19 changes our lives but life goes on, and we are grateful that our love to our community and passion to life doesn’t change.

Alice Li (13-years-old)
I give my picture a frame, and two sides. The left side is filled with things we do before covid 19, and the right side is filled with things we do during covid 19. In the middle of the picture, I drew a hole fill with hands. One of the hand in the hole stops covering the hole, and the viruses fly out. If one person stops protecting the Earth from viruses, by wear masks, and staying at home, the whole world will fill into disaster.

Anna Liao (8-years-old)
Ever since I was young, I dreamt of going on a cruise. A cruise has many cool features. It’s like a mini city squished on a boat. At the start of 2020, my family and I planned to go on a cruise. My magical cruising fantasy all crashed when COVID-19 started. We had to stay in our houses. It was very boring. Although I am physically unable to go on a cruise right now, I still wanted to bring the cruise to me. Therefore I used my markers and pencil crayons to express my interest in cruising.

Joanna Hao (8-years-old)
I been staying home and hope covid is gone so I can play with my friends or exploring nature and animals We can go to places you never been to in a long time like your grandpa and grandmas house or your best friend’s house we can do all of those things only if we work together and put the pandemic behind us.
